SPFHA Windsor Wildcats Featured in CBC News Story on the Growth of Girls Hockey in Ontario!
The Sun Parlour Female Hockey Association (SPFHA) and the Windsor Wildcats were proudly represented in a recent CBC News feature highlighting the continued growth and popularity of girls hockey across Ontario.
The story showcases the impact of female hockey at all levels — from grassroots participation to coaching, leadership, and inspiration driven by increased visibility through initiatives like the PWHL. We are especially proud to see so many members of the Windsor Wildcats community recognized for their contributions to the game.
Among those featured is Candice Chevalier, a Windsor Wildcats alumna who has come full circle as a current U15AA Wildcats coach, continuing to shape the next generation of players. The article also highlights Bill Atkinson, U15A coach and President of South County, along with Jason Trealout, head coach of our U18BB Wildcats, both of whom play key roles in developing competitive female hockey environments.
The Wildcats legacy is further represented by Jennifer Soulliere, a Wildcats alumna, and current players Reese Losier and Abby MacLellan, whose experiences reflect the opportunities now available to young female athletes in Windsor and Essex County.
We are also proud to see Kristin Barone, SPFHA board member, included in the feature. Kristin was among the original players when SPFHA was first established in the 1990s, and her continued involvement speaks to the long-standing commitment and community that has helped grow girls hockey in our region for decades.
This CBC story is a powerful reminder of how far girls hockey has come — and how organizations like SPFHA continue to play a vital role in providing inclusive, competitive, and empowering opportunities for female athletes.
We thank CBC and Emma Loop for shining a spotlight on the growth of girls hockey and are proud to see the Windsor Wildcats community — past, present, and future — represented on such a meaningful platform.
