ABOUT SPFHA

SPFHA, was established in 1993 as the first hockey program in the region solely devoted to female hockey. Today it is the largest female hockey association in the area with approximately 500 players! The SPFHA is a member of and governed by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA), the largest female hockey body in the world.
At SPFHA our goals and objectives are:
•To provide a great enjoyable experience for our players, parents, coaches, and volunteers.
•To promote the participation of girls in all aspects of the sport of hockey.
•To stress and foster the development of goodwill, sportsmanship, and good citizenship amongst the members of this Association.
•To protect the mutual interests of each team and player affiliated with the Association.
•To ensure that its' participants are provided meaningful opportunities, enjoyable experiences in a safe sportsmanlike environment.
Our Houseleague program includes community-based teams in three centres, Windsor, LaSalle and Tecumseh. Our U11 (formerly Atom), U13 (formerly Peewee), U15 (formerly Bantam) & U22 (formerly Midget/Intermediate) divisions compete in the Essex-Kent Girls Interlock League (EKGIHL) which allows our girls to play against other centres throughout Essex and Kent Counties. The season runs from September to March with many of our Houseleague teams also competing in tournaments throughout the year including our own SPFHA Windsor Wild Winter Classic held in January. All of our teams are showcased in our annual SPFHA Day of Champions at the end of the season. Our top teams may also advance to compete in the EKGIHL Day of Champions. |
Our U9 (formerly Novice) and U7 (formerly Initiation) houseleague program is the only 4-8 years of age houseleague program exclusively for girls in the Windsor-Essex Region. Our program has been steadily growing each year, thanks in part to the Canadian Tire First Shift programs that we have been running annually. Our program currently accepts girls under 9 years old with or without hockey playing experience. Our houseleague program is aimed at introducing girls to the sport of hockey. Our model is based on providing the girls a fun hockey experience where they can learn the basic fundamentals of the game, including skill development, team involvement, sportsmanship and most importantly a fun social experience with their friends and teammates! Our U9/U7 program includes weekly games and practices and runs from September to March finishing with our annual SPFHA Day of Champions. |

Our premier competitive program in the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is the Southwest Wildcats. This program showcases our top talent in the Southwestern Ontario region. This program offers elite players an opportunity to compete in one of Canada's top female leagues. |
Our annual tournament, The Windsor Wild Winter Tournament attracts houseleague and travel teams throughout Michigan and Ontario. The Windsor Wild Winter Tournament is one of Southwestern Ontario's premier tournaments.
